Breastfeeding for More Than One Year

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that mothers breastfeed for the first year and afterwards for as long as both mother and baby want to continue. Nutritional needs for mothers who breastfeed more than one year will depend on the amount of breast milk produced, plus the mother’s own needs.

If you continue breastfeeding for more than a year, you may want to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure you are meeting the nutritional needs of you and your child.
