The What's Cooking? USDA Mixing Bowl is an interactive tool to help with healthy meal planning, cooking, and grocery shopping. The site features a searchable database of healthy recipes, options to save recipes to a cookbook, print recipe cards, and share recipes via social media. All of the recipes previously on ChooseMyPlate.gov have been moved to this website and join thousands more from other USDA programs: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), USDA Foods, and Team Nutrition.

Menus

  • Sample menus at 2000 calorie level - This 7-day menu gives an example of how all of the recommendations for food group and nutrient intake can be integrated into a weekly menu. Averaged over a week, this menu provides the recommended amounts of key nutrients and foods from each food group. The menus feature a large number of different foods to inspire ideas for adding variety to food choices.

    Sample 2-week menus for eating on a budget - Recipes in this cookbook have been reviewed by nutrition professionals at the SNAP-Ed Connection using specific cost and nutrition criteria. Recipes are consistent with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPlate. Nutrition educators in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) nutrition assistance programs and their partners are encouraged to use the database to support their nutrition education program goals.
